Allow me to elaborate on a sign I saw the other day: In a perfect world, the president of the United States and the most ignorant and corrupt man in the country would not be the same person. Alas, such is not currently the case.
President Donald Trump, as you may have heard, has been under investigation for a couple of years in part due to suspicions that he conspired with pals like Roger Stone, and the Russians, and WikiLeaks, to obtain “political dirt” on his political opponents.
So then he goes on ABC News a couple of days ago and states publicly that if some foreign government wanted to dig up dirt on Trump’s political opponent in the next election, he would for sure be happy to obtain copies of all that dirt. And would he tell the FBI if such a thing were to occur? Hells no! because “that’s not how the world works.”
Which then prompted the chairwoman of the Federal Election Commission (whom Trump appointed) to state: “Let me make something 100% clear to the American public and anyone running for public office. It is illegal for any person to solicit, accept, or receive anything of value from a foreign national in connection with a U.S. election. This is not a novel concept.” In a tweet later, she added, “I would not have thought that I needed to say this.”
But she did, because, Donald Trump.
