Your Bailout Dollars At Work

()

More ribald hijinx from those lovable financiers down the block:

“It’s like buying fire insurance on your neighbor’s house — you create an incentive to burn down the house,” said Philip Gisdakis, head of credit strategy at UniCredit in Munich.

As Greece’s financial condition has worsened, undermining the euro, the role of Goldman Sachs and other major banks in masking the true extent of the country’s problems has drawn criticism from European leaders. But even before that issue became apparent, a little-known company backed by Goldman, JP Morgan Chase and about a dozen other banks had created an index that enabled market players to bet on whether Greece and other European nations would go bust.

This pretty much leaves me speechless this morning.

Toyota Recall: All You Really Need To Know

()

Toyota Chief Executive Officer Akio Toyoda, quoted in the New York Times: “We’re extremely sorry to have made customers uneasy. We plan to establish the facts and give an explanation that will restore confidence as soon as possible. Truly, we think of our customers as a priority and we guarantee their safety,” Mr. Toyoda said. He was seen driving off in a black Audi…

For God And Conglomerate

()

Oh hurray!

Mandatory American middle-class servitude to the Corporate Elite is nearly complete now, thanks to today’s comic Supreme Court interpretation that the First Amendment guarantees businesses the right to unlimited spending on political advertising.

Never mind that the Constitution and the rights it imbues were created for people, not legal business entities. Don’t buck the system, bud, just tow the company line, which is the same as the party line now that we’re free to buy the election of our choice. In fact, how’s about bending down here and taking a good lick from the ol’ corporate bootheel, peasant. Get used to the taste.

(And no, we aren’t hiring.)

Announcing VoteBooster Web Sites For Political Candidates

( • )

We interrupt our regular program for a brief commercial message:

I’ve mentioned a couple of times now (like in the last post) that I’m no longer in the news business, but neglected to say just what business I’m in. So allow me to introduce the new business I’ve just launched: VoteBooster.Who you gonna call? VoteBooster's

VoteBooster is a division of my little corporation, set up to create great web sites designed for political candidates. I’ve often marveled at how unfortunately bad many local candidates’ web sites are, and felt that they should have access to good-looking sites with the bells and whistles you see on, for instance, gubernatorial candidates’ web sites. Unfortunately, local political candidates rarely have the money available to a state-wide or national candidate.

So the idea behind VoteBooster is to make really good web sites that even local candidates can afford. Hey, if you’re a political candidate, check out these live demos by clicking on the images, and see how they stack up to what you’re using now.

I’m also using the launch of this new venture as the excuse behind the significant slow-down in postings on the RiverBlog these past few weeks. Handy!

And now, back to you regularly scheduled program.
