Hurricane Ike Knocking
(Nature)
Hurricane Ike is on the way, the eye expected to pass perhaps within 50 or 60 miles of us in less than 12 hours.
It’s a huge storm, but thankfully the intensity has kept to 110 miles per hour or so when it could’ve gone a lot higher, except something about the eyewall fighting with another part of the hurricane kept it from growing much bigger.
I boarded up a few of the cheap replacement windows some previous owner put in years ago, as they’re kind of weak and the glass is thin. We applied Category 2 Duck Tape to the rest.
I also enjoyed spending six hours lugging 275 potted plumeria plants into the garage, along with assorted hibiscus, other unidentified plants, lawn furniture, tools and assorted toys and sporting equipment.
We have a bunch of coolers and water jugs filled with the wet stuff in case the electricity goes out for the city of Richmond and the water stops pumping. We have plenty of canned food, water, candles, batteries, medical supplies and an invitation to my neighbor’s across the street if we lose power and get tired of sitting in the heat – as he has two generators and more than 300 gallons of gas.
All of which makes us about as ready as we’re likely to get.
